The questions kabayan ask us most, about credit, permits, down payments and the fine print. Answered straight, walang sales talk. Huwag mahiyang magtanong.
Credit and approval
Can I get a car loan with no credit history in Canada?
Yes. This is the most common situation we handle, every day.
Lenders with newcomer programs look at your immigration status, your income and how steady your job is, instead of a credit score you have not had time to build. Bring your status document and proof of income and we will get you a real answer.
Do you check my credit when I apply?
Your first application is a soft inquiry, which has no effect on your score.
We only run a hard check once you tell us you want to move forward, and we will ask you first. You will never find one on your report that you did not agree to.
What if I’ve had a bankruptcy, consumer proposal or repossession?
We work with this regularly, and nobody here is going to make you feel small about it.
Discharged, still in progress, or genuinely messy, bring the paperwork you have and we will be straight with you about what is realistic now and what changes in six months.
Status and permits
Can I get approved on a work permit?
Usually yes. Bring the permit itself, because the dates matter. Some lenders prefer loan terms that fit inside your permit’s validity.
If your renewal is in progress, that is workable too. Tell us exactly where yours stands so we send your file to the right lender the first time.
Bagong landed lang ako. Masyado pa bang bago?
Hindi. Some lenders will work with you within weeks of arriving, as long as you have a job or a signed job offer.
At this stage a down payment or a co-signer makes a real difference, not because we are asking for more, but because it is what moves a brand new file from a thin approval to a good one.
Can international students apply?
Sometimes, with a valid study permit, verifiable income, and usually a co-signer or a larger down payment.
It depends heavily on your situation, so ask us rather than guessing from a website. We will tell you honestly if the timing is wrong.
Payments and costs
How much down payment do I need?
Some approvals come with nothing down. Realistically, $1,000 to $3,000 opens up better rates and a lower monthly payment, especially with a thin credit file.
Bring whatever you can and we will show you both scenarios side by side, with the total cost on each, then you decide.
Straight talkAnyone promising you a great rate with zero down and zero credit history is selling you something. Ask them to put the total cost of borrowing in writing.
Kailangan ba ng co-signer?
Not always. But a co-signer with established Canadian credit, a spouse, a sibling, a tito or tita, often turns a marginal approval into a good one.
Before you ask familyA co-signer is legally responsible for the whole loan if you cannot pay it. Make sure whoever signs understands that completely. We will explain it to both of you in the same room, in Tagalog if that helps.
I send money home every month. Does that hurt my application?
No. Lenders measure your income against your debts, not against your padala.
But we would rather build you a payment you can genuinely carry alongside what you send home than one that squeezes you by month four. Tell us the real number you can afford, not the number you think we want to hear.
Are there hidden fees?
No. Alberta’s all-in advertised pricing law requires our listed price to include freight, inspection, administration, documentation and levy fees. Only GST and your financing costs are added on top.
If any number on the sheet confuses you, ask us to break it down line by line.
Know your rightsThat request is normal and you should make it at every dealership you visit in Alberta, not just this one. If a seller will not give you the all-in number in writing, walk away.
About us
Anong wika ang pwede kong gamitin?
English, Tagalog, Ilocano or Cebuano. Sabihin lang kung sino ang gusto mong kausap at ihahanap namin.
You should not have to negotiate the biggest purchase of your year in your second language if you would rather not.
Is Pinoy Auto Loans a separate dealership?
No. We are the newcomer financing team inside Crosstown Auto Centre at 15520 123 Ave NW, the same inventory, the same AMVIC-licensed dealership, the same 65-plus years in Edmonton.
What is different is the process and the people: Filipino staff, and a file path built for customers whose credit history starts in Canada rather than continues here.
Approval is subject to lender criteria, income verification and confirmation of status. Rates, terms and down payment requirements vary by applicant and lender. Pinoy Auto Loans is a program of Crosstown Auto Centre and is not a lender. AMVIC Licenced Dealer
